Yes, I have given and is still giving my child gum. And yes, she is able to chew gum responsibly. She knows not to swallow it and not to discard it anywhere (she gives it to mommy after she's done). And yes, she is facinated with the experience of chewing candy and not swallowing it.
I guess it's a good thing for me because when she misbehaves I just say, "okay, no gum later!" and she becomes as pious as an angel!
Yeah, yeah, judge me all you want but it works! ;-)
